Post-covid travel in Croatia: Coronavirus Update for 2021

Let’s admit it – 2020 was hard on everyone. Many people lost their job security, making traveling a less obvious choice in the summer months. With the pandemic going wild, travel became unimportant for many. But were here to guide you through post-covid travel in Croatia.

However, it is in our nature to explore, to seek new experiences and to go to new places. Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, travel has still been made possible by many countries, institutions, agencies and renters. We took hygienic measures to a new level, and made it possible for our guests to feel safe. Those who stayed at Apartment Arya in 2020, can witness this.

In this article we gather everything you need to know about getting to Croatia this summer, or what to expect from Post-covid travel in Croatia in 2021.

How to prepare for Post-covid travel in Croatia

Before you cross border

  • First, make sure you have a reservation confirmation – get it from hotel you booked or the apartment you rented. Renters, owners or receptionists will know what you need.
  • Then, fill out an Enter Croatia form. Print it out and put it on the car windshield while crossing the border – this form will shorten the waiting time on the border.
  • Also make sure you have either a negative PCR or BAT test, or a proof you received two shots of vaccination (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Gamaleya, Sinopharm) or one shot of Johnson&Johnson. A proof you already recovered from Covid-19 not more than 6 months ago will do the trick as well. Or simply get yourself a EU Digital COVID Certificate – and avoid all the hassle. There are also some other documents which you can present at the border, find a full list here:

After you cross the border

When you actually enter the country, it is useful to know these few tips:

  • There are Covid-19 testing centers all over Croatia. If you are staying in our Arya apartment, then you should know that you can test for coronavirus in several places in Makarska (addresses: Hrpina square 1, Lička Street 2, Stjepana Ivičevića Street 1 – ambulance & ambulance parking lot)
  • Some measureas are still in place: wear a mask indoors, wear a mask outdoors where it is not possible to maintain physical distance, wash your hands with soap and water, use disinfectant before entering public areas.

Comfortable stay in Makarska

When in Makarska…

As for us in Apartment Arya, we will try and make your stay as carefree as possible.

Staying in the center of Makarska has its privileges. If you wish to explore the old town – good news – it’s only a few hundred meters away. Mountain Biokovo is right behind your back, and a year of exploring it probably would not be enough to cover all of its amazing views and nature.

Explore the area!

Biokovo Nature Park office in Makarska is a good place to start – the staff will help organize your day on the mountain, and many agencies in town offer hiking, walking, cycling and sightseeing tours of the mountain. Make sure the one you choose provides a fully licenced tour guide, as Biokovo does not forgive rookie mistakes. We also recommend you pick the smaller tours, as the guide will be more adaptable and will probably devote more time to you and all the questions you might have about the area. Do not miss out on Biokovo Skywalk – it is a world-class attraction!

For those who wish to explore hidden beaches and snorkeling locations on their own, we can recommend boat tours or even renting out a mini boat for themselves. There are loads of choices – you only have to go the city harbor and take your pick.

Feast time!

Great food in Croatia

Eating out is also still a possibility. Now, more then ever, restaurants will go out of their way to make sure you have the best possible dining experience. They will provide necessary space between tables and have fewer guests at the time. It will also give your waiters an opportunity to be there for you even more than before. If you really don’t feel like eating out, don’t worry, in Apartment Arya you can use the fully equipped kitchen, or simply order takeout from any of Makarska’s restaurants. Even those which did not offer takeout before, now do.

Planning a vacation in these circumstances can be a bit daunting, but it is definitely doable. Make sure you check out the official Croatian Coronavirus website – they update it frequently, and it is the best source for getting official & most recent info on crossing the Croatian border. All info on Post-covid travel in Croatia is there.

Happy planning and see you soon!
